Ah, yes, only in America can a pre-med student, bred on hip-hop music, wind up spinning on the 1’s and 2’s for—of all things—a country music superstar from Australia! You can’t script such a wild scenario, but it’s true. DJ DEBONAIR is the young man who was entrusted to get audiences hyped to see and hear the legendary Keith Urban in action during his 2007/09 world tour. And DEBONAIR delivered exactly what Urban had in mind: Bring a wide range of music –not just country – to Keith Urban’s legion of faithful followers.

DEBONAIR is no stranger to getting a party started. While attending high school in his native Ft. Lauderdale, DEBONAIR was privy to an FM radio station at a nearby high school where Deejay K-N-S invited him to co-host the popular “Bump Show.” Upon enrolling at Florida State University, DEBONAIR parlayed radio shows on both “The World of Hip-Hop” on FAMU's WAMF-FM Tallahassee, and “The Underground Railroad” on Florida State University's WVFS-FM into “must-tune-in” opportunities in the city of Tallahassee.

From 1999 to 2000, he held three titles simultaneously at WVHT-FM Tallahassee as an on-air personality, music director, and mix show director boasting the highest Arbitron ratings for the market in his timeslot. After graduating from F.S.U. in 2000, and armed with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology, DEBONAIR realized his passions lay not in medicine, but in music. A move to Los Angeles later in 2001 prompted a shift to promotion and marketing, where he worked for several major record labels and established airwave presence for numerous artists including Snoop Dogg, Lil’ Jon, and Naughty By Nature. In 2003, DEBONAIR created Flawless P & M, a successful promotion and marketing company that helped break new music for 50 Cent, Jaheim, Eminem, D12, Timbaland, Common, Field Mob, Lloyd and Rich Boy. In addition, DEBONAIR also wore another hat, that of producer and musician (saxophone and bass), creating tracks for Mario, Brian McKnight, Trina, Trey Songz and Mistah F.A.B.

DEBONAIR kept his turntable chops up spinning in Los Angeles hot spots and at Stevie Wonder-owned KJLH-FM’s “Saturday Night Mixdown,” where he became one of the city’s most respected DJs. His high-energy approach and uncanny sense to read a crowd grabbed the attention of Urban’s management team, who approached DEBONAIR in early 2007 to join Urban’s worldwide tour. The combination of Keith Urban and DJ Debonair fit like a hand in glove. “It was Keith’s idea to have a DJ open for him and warm up the crowd,” DEBONAIR says. “Keith likes a wide variety of music, not strictly country, so he lets me play pretty much whatever I feel: Bruce Springsteen, Black Eyed Peas, Prince, John Mellencamp, AC/DC, 50 Cent, Michael Jackson and Led Zeppelin. The best thing is that everyone loves the open-format mixes. I get inspiration seeing thousands bobbing to my beats. Touring the world with Keith Urban justifies my belief that music is the force that unifies everybody. I’m proud to be a part of a major act that brings that point home nightly.” While working on Keith Urban’s incredibly successful world tour, DEBONAIR also had the honor of opening for superstars Carrie Underwood, Gary Allan, John Rich and his crew, The Muzik Mafia.

Ever the entrepreneur, DEBONAIR co-created the world’s first online DJ School, TurntableU, in 2009 along with DJ Icy Ice of the "World Famous Beat Junkies & KPWR Power 106 FM Los Angeles." Turntable University is the first DJ school on the world-wide web to give students direct access to high quality tutorials, taught by the most respected names in turntablism, and presented in high-definition utilizing cutting edge videography and graphics. Later in 2010, after the passing of mix show promotion legend, friend and mentor Ricky Leigh, DEBONAIR, along with the help of friends Rory McAlister, Jimmy Jamz, Kevin James, and Charles Dixon, resurrected the DJ Vatican Conference Call©.
